Savannah Guthrie has been a staple on the Today show for more than a decade—but fans are wondering where she is right now.
As one of the anchors for the primetime hours of the daytime series, Savannah delivers the latest in all things politics, world news, and pop culture. But when folks tuned in to Today on July 20, they noticed that Savannah wasn’t in her rightful place at the news desk. So, where is Savannah, and why is she not on the Today show at the moment?
Where is Savannah Guthrie?
According to Savannah, she’s briefly stepping away from Today to film her upcoming Wordle game show for NBC. She teased during the July 16 taping that she won’t be gone for long, and gave a clue about when the new series will premiere.
“I'm headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” she said, according to USA Today. “We're going to shoot the whole season, and we're super excited. [We] cannot wait for everyone to see it. It'll probably air in the New Year.”
Savannah’s involvement with the game show was first revealed in October 2025. But the real announcement came in May, when late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon, who’s producing the show, visited Today to share the news alongside Savannah.
"We’re bringing #Wordle to primetime!" the caption read on NBC’s Instagram at the time. "Hosted by Savannah Guthrie and produced by Jimmy Fallon and The New York Times. Coming soon to NBC and Peacock."
Savannah isn’t the only Today star taking time off. Craig Melvin posted on Instagram that he’s on summer vacation with his family, and Al Roker has been in Chicago to attend the Chicago International Film Festival and spend time with his son, Nick. Sheinelle Jones and Willie Geist filled in for the co-anchors.
