Air travel is full of missed connections. Usually, that means racing through the airport to catch a flight. Sometimes, though, it means wondering what might have happened if you’d introduced yourself to the stranger across the aisle. One Australian influencer decided not to leave it to chance.
In January 2026, 23-year-old Isabella Duric was on a Virgin Australia flight from Sydney to Melbourne when her friend (with whom she was traveling) pointed out a “cute guy” a row behind them. “I found your airport crush,” her friend told her. Duric told News.com.au that she was chatting with her girlfriends about it on Snapchat in real time, and wrote, “Imagine I send a note to the guy.” Turns out, they dared her to do it.
She then jotted down her number, Instagram handle, and name—“Isabella (blonde)”—on a small piece of paper and had her friend toss it to him across the aisle.
Things didn’t exactly go according to plan—the note bounced off the window before landing near the man, who saw it on the ground but didn’t open it. That didn’t stop Duric, though—she and her friend typed out “OPEN THE NOTE” in bright yellow on an iPhone and held it up to get his attention.
Duric recorded the whole exchange and shared it with her followers on TikTok, quickly going viral. The video racked up more than 1.4 million views before she later removed it from TikTok.
Though she wrote on her TikTok that she had “second-hand embarrassment” throughout the whole experience, the iPhone sign worked. The man, who later identified himself as Lachie, opened the note. At the end of the video, she posted a screenshot of his text to her after the flight: “Hey Isabella, I’m Lachie the dude you threw a note at haha how are you. Didn’t have internet on the plane to add you unfortunately.”
Duric’s TikTok followers praised her confidence in the comments. Even Virgin Australia got in on the fun, commenting, “We’re on the edge of our seats.👀” as they eagerly waited to see whether the connection would continue on the ground.
Duric later told News.com.au that she and Lachie texted for a few days, but things between them eventually fizzled out. She also said she is currently seeing someone new, adding that “everything is meant to happen for a reason.”
Either way, her leap of faith proves that not every missed connection has to stay that way—even if it only lasts a little while.
