Delta Air Lines has had a tough weekend. On Saturday, cancellations surged for the carrier, with more than 300 canceled flights. On Sunday, the disruptions continued, surpassing its Saturday totals. Delta had the most cancellations among all airlines worldwide, with disruptions taking place at its major hubs.
The airline wasn't alone as several of the other major carriers faced issues of their own throughout the weekend. On Saturday alone, there were over 2,000 cancellations on U.S. flights. On Sunday, that trajectory continued as Delta Air Lines faced heavy impacts.
Delta Air Lines Had The Most Canceled Flights Due To High Disruptions In Atlanta And New York
For the second day in a row, Delta Air Lines' major hubs faced ground stops due to severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the Northeast. Its New York hubs were especially affected, including John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport.
Additionally, the bulk of Delta's cancellations stemmed from disruptions at its largest hub, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The hub had the most departure cancellations worldwide, with 142, along with the most delays at 619, half of its flights on July 19.
As a result of the disruptions at its major hubs, Delta Air Lines had by far the most canceled flights. According to FlightAware, the airline canceled 400 flights, affecting 10% of its total flight volume. Delays were also high at 1,432.
U.S. Airlines With The Most Cancellations On July 19
Looking ahead to July 20, during the early morning, Delta Air Lines maintains its spot for the most canceled flights worldwide. The airline has cancellations on 124 flights, with the total expected to increase throughout the day.
The response to the ongoing cancellations was frustration among passengers, including the most loyal Delta travelers.
How Passengers Reacted To Delta Air Lines' Disruptions
Getting a flight with Delta out of Atlanta has proved challenging for many passengers over the last 48 hours. Weather caused the cancellations, which were later compounded by crew shortages.
On Reddit, one traveler reported cancellations on both Sunday and Monday out of ATL.
"I was supposed to fly out on Sunday morning, which was turned to Monday. Now the Monday flight to ATL has been cancelled. I cannot miss another day of work."
Disruptions for Delta passengers extended nationwide. Traveler Blaine Nelson stated on X that the same flight out of LaGuardia was delayed four times before finally being canceled.
"Very disappointed in @Delta today. Our flight out of LaGuardia got delayed 4 times until ultimately being canceled. Then they couldn’t fly us out for two days, and didn’t provide any hotel or food vouchers. And the icing on the cake, they put Emily’s luggage on a DIFFERENT plane!"
It was a disappointing experience for many loyal Delta passengers throughout the weekend. Even the most dedicated flyers are considering choosing other airlines moving forward following a tough weekend of unexpected delays and cancellations.

This is a frustrating reality. However, the carrier has issued a response, with several alerts for its major hubs. Delta is offering flexible rebooking while waiving the fees at several of its major hubs, including Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and LaGuardia.
Delta Air Lines Has Issued Travel Warnings For Atlanta And Its Northeast Hubs
Delta Air Lines has added new hubs to its travel alerts page. For July 21 and July 22, the airline has rebooking available for "Northeast U.S. Inclement Weather." Passengers can rebook flights without a fee at several major Northeast hubs.

The airline said in a statement that travel may be affected to these hubs in the upcoming days, and passengers should keep updated with frequent checks throughout their travel days on July 21 and July 22.
"To support customers during the inclement weather expected to affect the Northeastern region of the United States, travel to, from, or through the destinations listed below may be affected. Check flight status frequently for up-to-the-minute information about your flight plans, or get updates sent directly to your mobile device or by email with One-Time Notification," Delta wrote on its Northeast U.S. Inclement Weather page.
Delta has also issued a separate rebooking offer for flights out of Atlanta. The impacted travel dates are July 19 and July 20. Once again, Delta will waive the change fees as long as the replacement flight is in the same cabin and to the same destination.
By the looks of it, given Delta's newest alerts, cancellations are expected to remain high over the next few days.
