The match is struck, a star is born!

Darkest Dungeon launched in 2015 and remains one of the most challenging turn-based roguelike RPGs around. Despite its sequel arriving in 2021, Red Hook Studios hasn’t forgotten the original and has announced a brand new DLC that’s set to arrive much sooner than you’d expect.

Here’s everything you need to know about The Fire’s Edge DLC for the original Darkest Dungeon.

Darkest Dungeon The Fire’s Edge

Red Hook Studios has announced The Fire’s Edge DLC for Darkest Dungeon, introducing two new hero classes: the Duelist and the Runaway. Both characters debuted in Darkest Dungeon II and have been reimagined for the original game in this expansion.

According to Red Hook Studios, the Runaway is a flexible damage dealer who introduces the new Burn damage type, excelling in teams that rely on Stuns, Pulls, Knockbacks, and Shuffle effects. Meanwhile, the Duelist is a stance-based fighter who moves between party ranks, maintaining Riposte while switching between Defensive and Aggressive stances to maximize her damage potential.

Beyond the new heroes, the expansion introduces the Burn combat mechanic, along with new trinket systems such as Trigger Uses, Quest Charges, and Progressive Trinkets. The Fire’s Edge also adds three new Hamlet Districts: Academie Duello, Craftworks, and the Archaeological Base Camp.

Darkest Dungeon The Fire’s Edge DLC Release Date

The Fire’s Edge DLC for Darkest Dungeon launches on August 18, 2026. You can wishlist it on Steam now.

Red Hook Studios hasn’t announced a price yet. Previous paid DLC for the original Darkest Dungeon has ranged from $3.99 to $9.99, with larger expansions like The Crimson Court launching at $9.99.

Will The Fire’s Edge Break Mods?

No. According to the developers on Reddit, The Fire’s Edge’s content is additive in nature, and the team has been careful not to break existing mods. They also revealed that they’re working on an improved mod manager for Darkest Dungeon and will be looking for mod creators to help test both the new features and the updated mod manager ahead of release.

It’s great to see Darkest Dungeon continue to receive support from Red Hook Studios. While the sequel has been well received, the original remains a truly special game, and it’s been six years since its last DLC. You don’t often see a decade-old single-player game receive brand new content, making The Fire’s Edge a welcome surprise for longtime fans.
