Matt Damon had a female stunt double perform a fascinating scene for him in The Odyssey. The epic adventure is helmed by Christopher Nolan and also features Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson.
Why did Matt Damon need a female stunt double for the movie’s coolest scene?
The Odyssey has a cool scene where Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and his crew go against the Laestrygonians, a group of giants.
During an interaction with Happy Sad Confused's Josh Horowitz, Damon revealed that he actually needed a female stunt double for this scene. "There were these stuntmen who were all seven feet and then they got stunt men who were under five feet.”
The actor added, “My double was a woman, a female stunt performer who had the greatest arms I've ever seen. When she came into the catering tent, it was the first time I met her.”
Damon also mentioned that he personally reached out to the female stunt performer and admired her. “I went up and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she put in."
Besides Damon, the ensemble cast of The Odyssey also features Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Charlize Theron as Circe, Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy or Clytemnestra, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, Zendaya as goddess Athena, and John Leguizamo as Eumaeus. Other key cast members include Samantha Morton, Mia Goth, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, and Travis Scott.
The Odyssey is now playing in theaters. Nolan’s ambitious project opened to rave reviews on July 17, 2026. It currently holds a spectacular 95% Tomatometer score and a fantastic 97% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
As for its box office performance, it earned over $120 million in its opening domestic weekend and more than $260 million worldwide. With that, the movie became Nolan’s biggest global debut, surpassing his 2012 blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises, featuring Christian Bale, which made close to $250 million globally in its first weekend.
