A Clayface star has revealed how Robert Pattinson‘s Batman was almost connected to the upcoming DCU movie. The project is helmed by James Watkins, based on a screenplay from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.
What is the Robert Pattinson Clayface DCU debut idea?
While many fans wanted Robert Pattinson’s Batman to appear in the DCU, that hasn’t happened. Naomi Ackie, who plays a major role in Clayface, recently interacted with Entertainment Weekly. While discussing Batman’s involvement, she revealed that the team discussed the idea of giving Pattinson’s Batman a brief cameo in Clayface, though it never came to fruition.
Explaining the idea for Batman’s DCU debut with Clayface, Ackie revealed, "We were joking that we could go and get Rob to do a little cameo for us. But he was busy being Batman, saving another Gotham. It's like, through a window, you see Rob in his full gear. That's what we were thinking."
Pattinson’s Batman was first introduced in 2022’s The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves. The actor will soon appear in the sequel, The Batman: Part II, reprising his popular role of Bruce Wayne, aka The Dark Knight. Now, Pattinson’s version of the caped crusader exists in his own universe created by Reeves and is not connected to the DCU, created by DC Studios head James Gunn.
Speaking more of Clayface, it will be a body horror, R-rated movie. It will showcase the iconic Batman villain who was originally introduced in Detective Comics in 1940. The character eventually became one of Batman’s most recognizable rogues.
The upcoming film will see Tom Rhys Harries playing the leading role of Matt Hagen, a struggling actor who has his face disfigured following an attack. After going through an experimental procedure, he then turns into a shape-shifting creature.
The Clayface movie hits theaters on October 23, 2026.
