The Pittsburgh Steelers should feel a sense of urgency ahead of the 2026 season. Aaron Rodgers will play his final season this fall and will have the Steelers motivated to end his career on a high note. Rodgers should be especially interested in one important training camp battle to determine an important role on offense.

The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo previewed seven training camp battles that Steelers fans should pay attention to in his latest article.

DeFabo pointed to Pittsburgh’s wide receiver battle between Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard as one of the most important battles. It will certainly be one battle that Rodgers will be watching closely.

DeFabo argued that the WR3 role will not be a starting position, unlike the rotational role it was in Arthur Smith’s offense. That makes the position more important than ever.

Steelers fans may be excited to see Bernard win the role. But DeFabo warned that Wilson should have the upper hand headed into training camp.

“A certain segment of the fan base appears ready to move past Wilson and look right to the second-round rookie Bernard — and maybe that’s how the depth chart will eventually shake out,” DeFabo wrote. “Still, based on what we saw during OTAs and minicamp, if you show up in Latrobe on Day 1, you can expect Wilson to get almost all of the WR3 snaps in 11 personnel.”

Wilson has not made much of an impact during his two seasons in Pittsburgh. The former third-round pick has just 12 receptions for 166 receiving yards and two touchdowns to start his career.

Meanwhile, Bernard enters the NFL with an impressive resume and looks like an immediate contributor. He boasts positional versatility, but would spent most of his time in the slot with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. on the outside.

Steelers fans should keep their eyes on this training camp battle over the next month.
