Megan Thee Stallion went to try butter ice cream in New York City, and I regret to report that the internet may have some explaining to do.
In the recent video posted to the Grammy Award winner’s TikTok, Megan’s in the car, looking fabulous as usual, on her way to try the dessert she’d apparently been seeing all over social media. The cone is from Papa d’Amour, Chef Dominique Ansel’s bakery concept, and it’s vanilla bean soft serve dipped in French butter and finished with fleur de sel.
“I hope it’s as good as it looked,” Megan said before getting there. “I don’t know if it’s as good as it sounds,” which I’d say is already the correct amount of suspicion for a dessert coated in something I usually drench my popcorn in.
Megan then took a bite straight from the top of the cone—not a cautious side lick, noted—and immediately started laughing.
“This is NOT how it looked on TikTok!” she said.
Everyone in the car with her started laughing, too, easily the worst sound you want after ordering multiple rounds of a viral dessert.
Someone off-camera even asked, “Should I tell them to cancel the other ones?”
But according to Megan, the ice cream itself wasn’t the problem. She gave that part a “10 out of 10.” The butter seemed to be doing exactly what butter does, which is... well, taste like butter, and that’s a very specific experience when it’s wrapped around soft serve.
“This is my second TikTok recommendation that has been in the hole, oh my god,” Megan said. She did come up with a better plan: caramel ice cream instead of vanilla, still dipped in butter, obviously.
Dominique Ansel, pick up the phone. Megan’s calling.
