Fetty Wap, whose legal name is Willie Maxwell, was transferred from a federal prison in Minnesota to community confinement in January 2026 after serving slightly more than half of a six-year sentence. The Federal Bureau of Prisons placed him under community confinement overseen through its Philadelphia office, while his publicist confirmed that he had returned to New Jersey.

A federal judge sentenced Fetty Wap in May 2023 to six years in prison and five years of supervision after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Court filings described him as a kilogram-level redistributor in an organization that moved narcotics between the West Coast, Long Island and New Jersey.

Since returning to community confinement, Fetty Wap has focused heavily on reviving his music career. He announced his fourth studio album, “Zavier,” in March and described the project as a reflection of a new stage in his life. The 17-track album followed more than three years away from recording freely and presented a more personal version of the artist behind his public image.

According to Men’s Journal, Fetty Wap also launched his Nostalgia Tour in June 2026 and began performing for longtime supporters while introducing his catalog to younger listeners. The outlet reported that “Trap Queen” returned to the Billboard Hot 100 earlier in the year, giving the rapper another reminder that his breakout music continues reaching listeners more than a decade after its original run.
