A teenager living with “werewolf syndrome” is sharing how he’s become good friends with his barber.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive clip from the upcoming episode of TLC’s Most Extreme Humans, viewers are introduced to Lalit Patidar, a 19-year-old from Ratlam, India. He was born with the rare condition hypertrichosis — commonly known as “werewolf syndrome” — which causes excessive hair growth on the body.
Because of the condition, Lalit said he typically gets his hair cut every one or two months.
“I have an awful lot of hair,” he says with a laugh. “It’s been this way since childhood. I make sure to trim the hair on my face, ears and nose. Otherwise, I can have trouble breathing, seeing and hearing. It’s also difficult to eat food.”
“But if I cut too much, they will turn black, become tough and grow very thick,” he adds.

Lalit said he’s been going to the same barber for about a year and a half.
“When I first saw him, I was a bit confused. But then I realized that he has a hair condition,” the barber said. “You know, the hairs tend to irritate, they really do. So we have to trim them down.”
In the clip, the barber politely asks Lalit what he wants before cutting the hair in his ears and around his nose and mouth. Lalit admitted that he’s grateful to be treated with respect and like any other client.
“It feels good getting a nice haircut and being treated well,” he said. “He’s a good friend to have.”
“That’s a good look, you know!” his barber added.
