Taylor Sheridan's 9-Part Western Spin-off Officially Becomes One of the Biggest Shows on Streaming

The 'Yellowstone' franchise officially expands, and Taylor Sheridan continues to cement himself as the king of modern television.

Although Taylor Sheridanshows like Lioness and Landman remain among the most popular TV content today, another of his productions stands among the biggest shows on the current streaming landscape. It is the series that brought back not one, but two iconic characters as the key couple who represented the good and the bad of the rocky family dynamics depicted in Sheridan's iconic Western series Yellowstone return for another neo-Western adventure set after the events of the flagship series.

'Dutton Ranch' Is Soaring on Streaming

The show follows Yellowstone veterans Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) as they try to move on after losing their Montana ranch to a devastating wildfire. They're now starting over in Texas, with a new and smaller cattle ranch that could help them rebuild their business. The problem is that they immediately face confrontations with locals who pressure them to abandon the ranch.

Dutton Ranch premiered on May 15, 2026, and concluded on July 3. Season 1 consisted of nine episodes, and thanks to the positive reception, the series was quickly renewed for a second season. Directors included Yellowstone universe regular Christina Alexandra Voros, as well as House of the Dragon and Presumed Innocent veteran Greg Yaitanes. Phil Abraham, best known for his work on Mad Men and Daredevil, also directed a couple of episodes.

Per the latest streaming statistics via Nielsen, Sheridan's spin-off of his original series has cemented itself as one of the most popular shows of 2026 so far. The report covers streaming devices excluding computers and mobile devices and only includes U.S. viewing statistics. In the week of June 15–21, Dutton Ranch ranked No. 8 overall and No. 4 when narrowing the list to original content. The overall winner on the charts remains Netflix's thriller by Harlan Coben, I Will Find You.

Taylor Sheridan's 'Yellowstone' Universe Continues to Expand

Ever since the original series premiered in 2018, most entries have received acclaim, except for Marshals, which currently has significantly lower scores than the other Yellowstone shows. The initial success of the series cemented Sheridan's status in the media industry as the most important visionary in the modern Western genre and TV's most exciting storyteller in recent years.

First, the spin-off prequels proved that this wasn't just a family chronicle (with hints of a soapy drama), and there was more to the story than just the ambition of those in charge of the largest cattle ranch in all of Montana. Then, Marshals incorporated another genre and expanded the franchise's scope. With Dutton Ranch, viewers had the chance to revisit two of the most popular characters in the Yellowstone universe, and undoubtedly, this helped boost the series.

Although there were plans to expand Yellowstone with a series titled 6666, the project remains uncertain. The spin-off 1944 has reportedly been in development, but beyond its title and the suggestion it will incorporate World War II elements, nothing has been confirmed. For now, fans will have to wait for the Marshals and Dutton Ranch follow-ups, which are expected in the near future.
