(KRON) — A 23-year-old suspect faces a murder charge in the fatal June assault of an elderly man at an outdoor phone vendor stand, the Antioch Police Department announced Tuesday.
APD said Camari Coleman was arrested by members of its Investigations Bureau in Brentwood on Tuesday in connection with the death of 77-year-old Paul Lawson. Coleman was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has also filed a charge of elder abuse resulting in death.
Antioch police said officers responded on June 9 to a reported battery at an outdoor phone vendor stand at the Contra Costa County Employment and Human Services building, located at 4545 Delta Fair Blvd.
“Investigators determined that Mr. Lawson became involved in a verbal and physical fight with employees at the vendor stand. During the incident, Lawson fell and reported that he was unable to move,” said police in a news release.
Lawson was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries on June 13.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with information tied to the case is encouraged to contact Detective Duff at [email protected].
