Sam and Dean Winchester are officially splitting up for their next project, but that just means we're about to get double the trouble. Supernatural may have wrapped up for now on screen, but that doesn't mean it isn't continuing elsewhere, expanding through comics, prequels and attempted expansions. Its next chapter is rather more dramatic, and the pair are being separated by, of all things, Dynamite.
Dynamite has officially announced Supernatural: Dean Winchester and Supernatural: Sam Winchester, two interconnected comic-book series launching in October 2026, and these new titles will follow the brothers separately after an incident divides them in the upcoming one-shot Supernatural Special: Wayward. Although each book will focus on a different Winchester, the two stories are designed to overlap in what's Dynamite's most ambitious project yet.
Sam and Dean Will Face Their Own Horrors
Supernatural: Dean Winchester comes from writer Chuck Brown and artist Rapha Lobosco. The story finds Dean alone in New Orleans during Mardi Gras, where he attempts to solve a case that his father could never close, but so may require him to kill a god which, on the face of it, is perhaps more problematic than anyone would let on.
Supernatural: Sam Winchester, meanwhile, is written by Paulina Ganucheau with artwork from Kendall Goode. In this edition, Sam travels to an abandoned Appalachian town after doing something to Dean that he can never undo. Ooh, mysterious. Cryptic phone calls draw him into a mystery involving ancient horrors buried in the mountains.
The separation begins in Supernatural Special: Wayward, written by Ganucheau and illustrated by John Amor, which arrives on September 2, and readers are being encouraged to pick up the one-shot before beginning the two solo books, as it establishes the event that sends Sam and Dean down their individual paths. So it's a prequel to what's to come, got it. The launch of this particular series follow the conclusion of writer Greg Pak’s ongoing Supernatural series, which ends on August 26. Dynamite has also confirmed it already has further plans for the brothers beyond the two spin-offs, eventually bringing the divided Winchester family back together.
Supernatural: Dean Winchester #1 and Supernatural: Sam Winchester #1 launch in October 2026.
