Summer is here, and I’ve been watching my son — a huge grilling and smoking enthusiast — get his pellet smoker and outdoor grill prepped and geared up with all the necessary grilling tools. One tool he can’t live without is a meat thermometer, and lately he’s been eyeing wireless models. He’s not the only one, as former pro chef and writer Greg Baker can’t say enough about the importance of using a meat thermometer to ensure a steak ordered medium-rare or a chicken breast is cooked to the correct temperature.

If you want one that chefs recommend, snag the Meater Plus Smart Wireless Meat Thermometer. In fact, a former chef stated that this is “hands down the best meat thermometer they’ve ever used.”

The Meater Plus is completely wireless, with a single probe you insert into the meat. This clever meat thermometer works through an app on your phone. In the app, you can select the type of meat, cut, and cooking method, and the preset information will provide you with the recommended cooking time and temperature. Plus, it offers alerts and alarms to let you know when your meat is close to the proper temperature and ready to pull. So instead of hanging out by the outdoor grill or smoker, constantly checking on what you’re cooking, you can monitor it in the app from up to 165 feet away.

The convenient storage case also serves as the meat thermometer’s charging station. According to the brand, a 5-minute charge can provide up to 2 hours of cooking time. The probe is dishwasher-safe, or you can hand wash and wipe it dry.

Many shoppers are preparing for summer gatherings, with over 5,000 units purchased in the last month alone. “It’s a true set it and forget it device,” said one shopper, a chef and caterer. “No more stabbing my thermometer into the meat multiple times. And no more over- or under-cooks,” they added. One home cook reported they “now have no issues grilling steaks, chicken, and fish to perfection” and call themselves an almost “master chef.” This is a “must for all aspiring chefs,” wrote another shopper. “It takes the guesswork out of the process.” “You will never, and I mean never, overcook a piece of meat again,” said another one.

The Meater Plus is currently on sale for $80. Now’s your chance to grab a wireless meat thermometer and start cooking like the pros.
