Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry sat down for an interview with the Hollywood Reporter on Zoom, where they caught up with the NBA power couple about their latest on-court and off-court ventures.
The Warriors’ veteran was asked about the impact of his injury on his preparations for the 2026-27 season when Curry began reflecting on his basketball mortality.
“It does. But it also adds to the understanding of basketball mortality and the fact that I won’t be able to play forever,”said Curry on whether the injury impacts the ‘fire’ in his preparation.
“You don’t dwell on it, but it changes the intentionality. It gives me a sense of urgency about trying to get the most out of what’s left. I have to train differently. My body is different at 38 than it was even five years ago.”
“I try to work smarter when it comes to everything that I do. I still want to be the hardest-working guy in the room and try to live on that. Whatever happens, it all takes care of itself on the court. When I get back into the season, that’s the fun part.”
Ayesha Curry added to the optimism from Stephen Curry and stated her bold expectations for her husband.
“I just know you have one more chip in you. I tell him this every other week. One more,” she said.
While being aware of his basketball mortality, Stephen Curry had decided to make career plans for two years at a time. And the 38-year-old is currently in the final season of his contract with the Warriors, where he is owed approximately $62.5 million in player salary alone.
According to reports, Curry is expected to sign a two-year, $136 million extension this season and won’t test free agency next summer.
At age 38, Curry ended the 2025-26 season averaging 26.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 46.8% from the field and 39.3% from beyond the arc. He earned his 12th All-Star selection and proved that he can still play like a top 10 player in the league.
He will try hard to bring the fruit of his wife’s expectations. But whether or not Stephen Curry can make Ayesha Curry’s championship predictions come true, he has already cemented his legacy in the league.
To the extent that he became the first active player to get honored with an individually customized experience at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Considering that Curry is expected to be with the Warriors for at least three more years, that means at least three more chances at a championship.
