It's a tough relationship between Dallas Cowboys fans and Stephen A. Smith, considering Smith has laughed and joked through Cowboys losses and, at times, collapses. Smith has never liked the Cowboys, but that doesn't stop Cowboys fans from giving it right back to him whenever he's predicted things wrong.
This time, on ESPN's "First Take," he's taking out his frustrations on Dak Prescott, who recently said it's Super Bowl or bust from here until the end of his career. Smith went on the defense to say that Prescott can't afford to say that because he hasn't walked the walk.
"Super Bowl or bust? You haven't been to the conference championship game in your career. The franchise hasn't been to the conference championship game in 30 years. What the hell are you talking about? It's clearly lip service. It's clearly lip speak. You ain't saying anything of substance whatsoever."
Stephen A. Smith had a problem with Dak Prescott's Super Bowl or bust mentality
First of all, there's nothing wrong with having that kind of mentality to say Super Bowl or nothing. This is the NFL. It's what all the players dream about. What's Prescott supposed to say? We only want to make the playoffs?
If anything, Smith and other NFL media personalities would probably make fun of Prescott more for lowering his expectations. Plus, with the team Prescott has around him this year, how can he not be excited about going Super Bowl or bust?
Even though there are questions at offensive tackle with Tyler Guyton, that doesn't stop the Cowboys' OL from being at least a decent bunch. The new defense, led by Christian Parker, is giving fans all the hope in the world that they can make a 180-degree turn.
Prescott won't have to play hero ball like he did last season, and if the defense makes it to the middle-of-the-pack rankings, that's all we can ask for.
Smith added that Prescott should crawl before walking. Can Prescott get to the NFC Championship game? The Cowboys are the only NFC team in the 21st century to not appear in that game. It became even more embarrassing when the Washington Commanders beat them to the punch in 2025, only to lose to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Commanders were the only other team not to make it to the conference title game, and they have had far worse seasons than Dallas in 30 years. Seeing them in that game only upped the ante for the Cowboys to break their 30-year curse.
Smith will always find a reason to critique Dallas, but most importantly, the fanbase. Don't stop believing, Cowboys Nation. If there's anything to be excited about, it's 2026.
