San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama immediately emerged as a surging superstar with his team, leading them to the NBA Finals as he was among the contenders for the league’s Most Valuable Player award.
On Wednesday, Wemby was revealed as one of the three cover athletes appearing on different versions of the upcoming NBA 2K27 video game.
The Spurs star appears on the standard edition of the game, while WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark is on the deluxe edition, and former NBA All-Star Derrick Rose appears on the ultra edition, which has limited-time availability.
It’s another major accomplishment for the French phenom, who averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game with a 51.2% field goal percentage last season.

“We are not alone,” NBA 2K wrote in their cover-reveal message with an alien emoji. “Victor Wembanyama has landed as your NBA 2K27 Standard Edition Cover Athlete.”
The San Antonio Spurs also shared the post using an alien, game controller, and starry-eyed face emoji to celebrate their young superstar.
NBA 2K27’s standard cover features Wemby reacting after this game-winning jump shot to clinch a playoff spot against the Phoenix Suns. The cover also shows several nearby teammates clutching at his jersey to celebrate with him after the massive shot went in.
A teaser trailer for the game, which reveals the three covers, also features highlights from Wemby, Clark, and Rose.
He had plenty of those huge moments during his past season and into the postseason. That included his epic performances and impressive highlights against the Oklahoma City Thunder in a seven-game series and the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.
Hitting shots from just past the halfcourt logo seemed to become standard for him in real-life games, so one can only imagine if he’ll be overpowered in the video game.
Athletes seeing themselves as a playable character in a sports game is a huge deal for many players, but landing on the cover is an extra-special honor that many cherish. Wembanyama clearly deserves the recognition for his past season, although many might contend that the NBA Finals MVP, Jalen Brunson of the Knicks, was also very deserving of a cover.
Wemby joins previous 2K cover athletes that have included NBA MVPs and champions such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jayson Tatum, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Shaquille O’Neal.
One might think David Robinson and Tim Duncan had 2K covers in the past. Surprisingly, Wemby is just the third Spurs player to grace a 2K cover and the first to appear on a standard edition of the game.
Tony Parker was on the NBA 2K16 France version, and Pau Gasol appeared on the cover of the NBA 2K17 Spain version. Duncan was the cover athlete on the rival NBA Live 2000 game, while Robinson appeared on the cover of NBA Action 95 and on his own officially licensed game called Supreme Court.
Both of those players won one or more championships during their careers, and it won’t be surprising to see Wemby add at least a few during his time on the court.
Fans can pre-order all editions of the NBA 2K27 game today through 2K’s website, with a global release date set for Sept 5, 2026, and early access available with pre-orders of the deluxe and ultra editions.
