The Seattle Seahawks are starting training camp with safety Nick Emmanwori on the PUP list, but it won't be long.

The defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks open training camp with safety Nick Emmanwori on the PUP list, but it’s not the end of the world for the defensive backfield.

ESPN Seahawks reporter Brady Henderson reported that Emmanwori recently underwent surgery on his right ankle, per sources, so the PUP designation was for that reason. Emmanwori is one of two significant Seahawks players on the PUP list, with running back Zach Charbonnet also being on the list due to his knee injury last year.

While Charbonnet has a long way to go, Emmanwori is expected to be playing in Week 1, Henderson reported.  That’s big news for the Seahawks’ 6-foot-3, 220-pound safety, who is entering his second season out of South Carolina.

Seattle took him with a second-round pick in 2025, and the move paid off during the Super Bowl-winning season. Emmanwori showed he is a threat to make big plays against the pass, but he can also get to the quarterback.

Last season, Emmanwori had 2.5 sacks, 81 tackles, 11 pass deflections, an interception, nine tackles for loss and four quarterback hits. Seattle utilized him as a starter in 11 of the 14 games he played, and the Seahawks put him on special teams a little, with 39 plays last year.

Emmanwori only played 14 games last year because of ankle trouble, which occurred with a high-ankle sprain in Week 1. He stayed healthy for most of the playoffs, where he had a fumble recovery, four pass deflections and 13 tackles.

That said, Emmanwori sustained a low ankle sprain before the Super Bowl but still played. Fortunately for the Seahawks, he had the surgery, and he will be ready to go when the Seahawks face the Patriots again to kick off the new NFL season in September at Lumen Field in Seattle.
