The Seattle Seahawks won't have the services of Zach Charbonnet to begin training camp. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list while still recovering from a knee injury he suffered in the playoffs last season. The move to put the running back on PUP should stun no one.
That last part, mind you, has to be pointed out because some of the responses to NFL insider Adam Schefter delivering the news of Charbonnet on PUP got some odd responses. What's clear is that some people don't seem to be able to tell the difference between Charbonnet and rookie Jadarian Price.
To be clear, at this point, Price, Seattle's first-round choice in the 2026 NFL Draft, is fine and will practice fully in training camp. He is expected to be the starter in Week 1, too, as long as he can prove he can pass protect well enough to keep quarterback Sam Darnold upright.
Seattle Seahawks place Zach Charbonnet on training camp PUP
Charbonnet, though, has no timeline for his return. Being placed on PUP in training camp is basically meaningless. A player can be placed on the list and be activated the next day and immediately practice. If one is placed on PUP after final roster cuts are made or during the season. then a player has to miss at least four games.
Zach Charbonnet is a candidate to be placed on the physically unable to perform list to start the season. He tore his ACL against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, and he had surgery in February. At best, he probably returns by late October. More realistically, he doesn't come back until December.
The Seattle Seahawks saw previous RB1 Kenneth Walker III leave in free agency and sign with the Kansas City Chiefs. To replace him and Charbonnet, at least temporarily in terms of the latter, the team drafted Price and signed Emanuel Wilson in free agency. George Holani is also still on the roster.
Seattle also might use its fullbacks a bit more in 2026 than in recent seasons, as new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury helped run a system with the 49ers that got good use out of the mostly forgotten position. The Seahawks will likely keep both Robbie Ouzts and Brady Russell on the roster, and that helps offset the loss of Walker and Charbonnet, too.
All Seattle did with Charbonnet on Wednesday was the obvious. The team placed a player who wasn't going to be able to participate in training camp on PUP. The backfield currently belongs to Jadarian Price (who, again, is quite healthy).
