"The Security Service's counterintelligence unit has prevented another terrorist attack in Mykolaiv," the agency said. “Through preemptive action, a Russian agent was detained who was preparing to kill a member of Ukraine's Defense Forces using a homemade bomb. SBU officers detained the suspect as he was planting explosives under a Ukrainian soldier's car.”
The man, a conscripted soldier from the Bashtanka district who had been recruited by Russia, was carrying out the assignment on behalf of Russian handlers, the SBU said. According to the investigation, the suspect had gone absent without official leave from his military unit and began looking for work through Telegram, where he was recruited.

Investigators determined the man attempted to covertly install a homemade explosive device under a Ukrainian soldier's vehicle. He also completed a separate task for his handlers: registering a Starlink satellite terminal and passing the corresponding credentials to Russian operatives.
"He later attempted to recruit his wife and 10 people with drug addictions into a scheme to covertly register Starlink terminals, offering them money in exchange for their passport data," the SBU said. “If the enemy had gained access to the satellite terminals, they planned to use them to help direct missile, artillery, and drone strikes on the southern front.”
A smartphone used to coordinate with Russian handlers was seized during searches, and the illegally registered Starlink terminal has been blocked. SBU investigators have charged the man under several articles of Ukraine's Criminal Code:
・Article 111, Part 2 (treason committed under martial law)
・Article 15, Part 2, and Article 258, Part 1 (completed attempt to commit a terrorist act)
The suspect is being held in custody without the option of bail. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison with confiscation of property.
