Ryan Fox will live on in history after pulling off a dramatic comeback to win the 2026 Open Championship. In the process, he held off Scottie Scheffler, who finished at 7 under par.
Over time, Fox has been heralded for being one of the fastest golfers on the professional tour. When describing his pace of play, he mentioned Scheffler, highlighting a time when they were partnered at the Phoenix Open this year, per the PGA Tour.
Then, he left it up to the media to interpret whether Scheffler was dissing him or praising him.

“I played with Scottie Scheffler earlier in the year, and I can’t work out if this was a burn or a compliment,” Fox said. “We played at Phoenix, and we’re in a three-ball on Saturday. We walk off the ninth tee, and he goes, ‘Foxy, it doesn’t even feel like you’re in the group. It just feels like we’re playing in a two-ball, you hit it so fast. It’s just in the air.’
“You guys can tell me if it’s a burn or a compliment. It is just always how I’ve played.”
On the 17th hole, Fox hit a birdie that drew him even with Cam Young at 5 under par. With the possibility of a playoff looming, Fox hit a 330-yard tee shot that landed in between the fairway and bunker on the 18th hole.
Then he hit a 175-yard shot to bring him within 11 feet of the old. Finally, Fox locked up the Open Championship by sinking a birdie within 22 seconds and finishing at 10 under par.
