Ryan Clark is out at ESPN.
The former NFL defensive back turned sports media personality was let go during Monday's episode of "NFL Live." Clark, 46, was told by ESPN executives during Monday's episode that he was being let go. ESPN executives reportedly didn't want Clark to read about his future online, so they broke the news to him themselves.
"Sources at ESPN say the reason they told Clark during the show was due to media inquiries into his departure and a fear that the news would leak out before they could inform him. Since after the Super Bowl in February, sources had told The Athletic that Clark’s job could be in jeopardy. Last week, The Athletic learned that Clark was likely to be let go," the New York Times reported.
"ESPN’s plan was to do that on Tuesday morning, but after receiving calls on the matter chose to inform him during his show as they did not want him to read it online before being told in person."
Clark, who was reportedly making around $2 million per year, has responded publicly to his ousting at ESPN.
The longtime NFL analyst admitted that it is all "madness."

The former NFL defensive back posted to social media following his future being decided at ESPN.
“Proof of Life…Before the madness of yesterday, I woke up, got in my Tundra, drove to Planet Fitness, and got to work,” Clark wrote, as he shared videos of himself working out at the gym on Monday.
“The rest of the day was eventful, but the journey continues. My peace is with God, and my humility comes from within. I’ll continue to build myself so the world can never strip me of what’s real. Get moving today y’all! 🙏🏾.”
Clark joined ESPN in 2015 and won a Sports Emmy in May 2023 for Outstanding Personality/Studio Analyst for this work at ESPN.
He appears to be in decent spirits following his ousting Monday.
