ESPN firing Ryan Clark, that too, mid-show, was cold. While the network is set to broadcast the first Super Bowl in its history, one of its longtime analysts won’t be a part of it. ESPN parted ways with Clark on Monday as part of a wave of layoffs taking place this week in Bristol.
Clark joined ESPN back in 2015 after a 13-year NFL career that included a Super Bowl title and a Pro Bowl appearance. He was one of the more visible analysts on the network – part of the Monday Night Countdown crew that included Scott Van Pelt, Jason Kelce, and Marcus Spears. Clark also won an Emmy for Outstanding Personality Studio Analyst in 2023.
Ryan Clark is optimistic after getting cut by ESPN
Clark posted a message in response to his firing and a major wave of layoffs. He took to X and expresed his feelings:
“Sending prayers and love to all those laid off today by ESPN. So many of you have poured your life into that company, & I know how you’re feeling right now.”
Most would have thought Clark would be around when ESPN aired the Super Bowl, but the situation with ESPN soured over time. Despite all the accolades as an on-air personality this past decade, Clark reportedly had behavioral issues as of late and clashed with colleagues.
Last year, Clark had to apologize for an altercation with ESPN reporter Peter Schrager on Get Up. Clark made a remark about Schrager not being a former player.
“That’s the non-player in you,” Clark said. “Peter, what I need for you to do is not get mad and let me finish.”
