The Rick and Morty franchise is still going strong 13 years after first debuting on Adult Swim. The latest season of the show was able to achieve the rare, coveted perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and that's been matched by the new spinoff series.
Ahead of the premiere of President Curtis, the spinoff has gotten its debut score on Rotten Tomatoes revealed. It is also a perfect score of 100%, matching Rick and Morty Season 9. Of course, most of the previous seasons of Rick and Morty also have near-perfect scores of their own, as the animated show has consistently drawn acclaim throughout its entire run. The score for President Curtis could potentially drop as more reviews are submitted after the show's official premiere on July 26, but for now, it's proving to be a spinoff that's worthy of the franchise.
Franchise Fans Will Appreciate President Curtis
"Gloriously silly and profanely stupid, President Curtis features mile-a-minute jokes and a plethora of LOL visual gags, which makes perfect sense, since it's a spin-off from Rick and Morty... A mirth-making machine," said ScreenAnarchy's Peter Martin in a review.
Praising the show's lead voice actor, Cheryl Eddy of io9 stated, "You can’t go wrong with Keith David in any context, but he brings a gravitas here that makes Curtis’ presidential proclamations entirely believable, no matter how ridiculous they may be."
"Just a man with a powerful title, surrounded by characters who are just trying to be people in spite of their extraordinary abilities and abnormal jobs. It’s a big part of what makes President Curtis ridiculous, relatable, and eminently watchable," another review by AV Club's Erik Adams also reads.
President Curtis Is Rick and Morty Meets The X-Files
The spinoff was created by Rick and Morty executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano. Keith David voices the titular politician, joined by Stephanie Beatriz (Twisted Metal) and Jim Rash (Community). It follows President Andre Curtis and his staff as they investigate paranormal and unexplained phenomena. The show has been described as theRick and Morty franchise's version of The X-Files. It's also expected that many familiar characters will be making appearances in the new show, given that it's set in the Rick and Morty universe.
President Curtis will debut on July 26 at 11:30pm ET/PT on Adult Swim, just after the Rick and Morty Season 9 finale. New episodes will be made available for streaming on HBO Max the day after they air.
