Santos Escobar is only days away from becoming a free agent, and he made sure to send one final message to Triple H and Nick Khan before he officially becomes a free agent.
Escobar’s WWE run officially ended on April 24, 2026, bringing his seven-year journey with the company to a close. He first joined under the masked name El Hijo del Fantasma and won the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament in 2020.
Soon after, he revealed his Santos Escobar character and went on to hold the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. During that time, he also built Legado del Fantasma into one of NXT’s top factions.
Later, Escobar moved to SmackDown with his group and joined Rey Mysterio to bring back the Latino World Order. That partnership eventually fell apart when Escobar turned on Mysterio and created a new heel version of Legado del Fantasma with Angel and Berto.
Late in 2025, his WWE future became uncertain when his contract expired. In the end, WWE convinced him to stay by offering him a new deal. However, he never returned to WWE television.
Instead, he wrestled for AAA as part of WWE’s partnership with the Mexican promotion before suffering a torn triceps during the Rey de Reyes tournament in March 2026. While recovering from surgery, he was one of several wrestlers released by WWE on April 24.
Santos Escobar sends one last message before leaving WWE behind
With his 90-day non-compete clause ending on July 23, Escobar made it clear that he believes his story in wrestling is far from over.
"2 dias: WWE. I gave everything and that's what was taken, no regrets. Grateful for the people, the places and circumstances I was put in. I'll keep growing my legend and my indentation in the industry. Watch me Paul and Nick,” he tweeted.
Whether it was meant as a challenge or just a confident statement, Escobar made sure Triple H and Nick Khan were part of the conversation before entering free agency.
Even before officially becoming a free agent, Escobar is already one of the biggest names available. Reports earlier this week revealed that he has landed a role in a feature film. He is currently filming what many believe could be his biggest acting project yet.
Once filming is complete, Escobar is expected to return to wrestling while also exploring more opportunities outside the ring.
