RAHWAY – Detective Sidra Colvin, known for her commitment to community policing and youth outreach, has been promoted to sergeant and will lead the Rahway Police Department's Juvenile Division.
Colvin was sworn in during a ceremony attended by Mayor Raymond Giacobbe, City Council members, family, friends and fellow officers. Her promotion took effect July 1.
City officials said Colvin is believed to be the first Black woman promoted to the rank of sergeant in Rahway.
A member of the department since 2013, Colvin has built a reputation for community policing, youth mentorship and public service. She has helped develop programs aimed at strengthening ties between law enforcement and residents while serving as a role model for young people in the city.
As supervisor of the Juvenile Division, Colvin will oversee initiatives focused on youth engagement, prevention efforts and community partnerships.
"Sergeant Colvin has been a tremendous asset to our police department and our community, and I know she will continue to lead with integrity in her new role," Giacobbe said.
Police Director Frank D'Errico and Chief Law Enforcement Officer Shawn Ganley also praised the promotion.
"Sergeant Colvin has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership, professionalism, integrity and an unwavering commitment to the residents of Rahway," D'Errico and Ganley said in a joint statement. "She exemplifies the qualities of a true community-oriented police officer, and we are confident she will continue to make a positive impact in her new leadership role."
