Parents say it is "absurd", "ridiculous" and "pathetic" after an official noise complaint was made about adults "shouting at children to come inside following playtime".
Housing Association Amplius wrote to residents of Viscount Close in Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire, to say it had received a complaint about noise.
Natasha Saggs, whose daughter plays in the communal area, said: "We get complaints if children are on social media too much and they're gaming inside and they're on their tablets. Being called in for dinner is a normal daily thing to do."
Amplius said it took reports of noise nuisance seriously and it "may arrange noise monitoring".
Saggs added: "To have complaints on that, I just think it's absurd".
Susan Coleman, whose grandchildren play on the grassy area, said the complaint was "totally pathetic, because how are you supposed to get your children in if you don't shout them?"
"Kids are always out here, which is nice - better than sitting indoors on the computers," she added.
Rick Gay said his partner's children were always playing in the neighbourhood and it was "absolutely ridiculous" for someone to complain about shouting them in.
"You're entitled to shout your children in. It's probably only at teatime if you do hear them," he said.
"Whoever's complained needs a head wobble."
Nsernesta Jerumbauskaite, who was teaching her daughter to ride a bicycle, said: "There shouldn't be a complaint about this noise. It's in the evening. It's not late."
"I don't think it makes any disruption," she added.
'Peaceful communities'
In the letter sent to properties in the area, Amplius said it had "received a report relating to noise".
"The report refers to shouting in a communal area, shouting at children to come inside following playtime on communal grass area."
A spokesperson for Aplius told the BBC it took reports of noise nuisance seriously and wants to "create peaceful communities for our customers".
"No conclusions have been reached, and we'll assess any evidence that may be submitted.
"We'll also remain in contact with all relevant customers to keep them updated about the progress of the case."
The BBC was unable to speak to the complainant.
