On July 10, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire. During their U.K. visit, they managed to persuade the monarch to meet their children, Princess Lilibet and Prince Archie.
However, the California-based couple had to pay an “embarrassing” price to fulfill their desire for a reunion between the monarchy and their kids.
According to Radar Online, the Sussexes had to undergo strict security checks before entering the Highgrove estate with their children to meet the King.
Prince Harry and Meghan Faced ‘Humiliating Security Checks’ Before Reunion
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle secured the long-awaited reunion between their children and King Charles, sources told Radar Online, the young couple had to endure “humiliating security checks” before that.
A source shared, “Every precaution was taken before the Sussexes were allowed into the residence. Staff were determined that nothing capable of recording private conversations or compromising security would make its way inside.”
They added, “It was undoubtedly an uncomfortable experience for Harry and Meghan, as they were essentially frisked like any other commoner, but those organizing the visit believed it was essential.”
According to the insiders, “the order came directly from Charles.” Further, they explained that the security measures were taken to rebuild trust. “The searches were embarrassing, but they were seen as the price of rebuilding trust,” they added.
The insider shared, “There remains genuine concern that private family discussions could become public whenever the Sussexes are allowed into royal circles, so officials – and the King – felt there was no alternative.”
Prince and Princess of Wales Stayed Away From the Reunion
While the British monarch met with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, reportedly saying “blood is blood”, Prince William and Kate Middleton remained noticeably absent from the Highgrove estate reunion.
According to Fox News, the Prince and Princess of Wales were instead spotted at the DMI Royal Charity Polo Cup 2026 at Guards Polo Club in Windsor. The 44-year-old even saddled up to participate in the game.
British royals expert Hilary Fordwich told the publication, “Prince William remains adamant Harry isn’t to be trusted.” Meanwhile, British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard called it a “total blackout” between the brothers.
“There is no sign of the rift subsiding anytime soon. I don’t see the Prince and Princess of Wales’ absence as a snub. It is strategic. You can’t have an institutional reconciliation without Prince William, the future king,” Chard shared.
So, while Prince Harry managed to reunite his children with King Charles, he is yet to repair his relationship with the future King and Queen. Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner said:
“The main barrier for Harry now is starting peace talks with William and Princess Kate, if that can happen. William has been demonstrably against Harry since his book ‘Spare’ was published.”
