Prince William and Kate Middleton's oldest child Prince George is officially a teenager – and he's received some exciting news about his future at Eton College

Prince George turns 13 today, and he's received some exciting news, courtesy of his uncle, Prince Harry

During an appearance on James Corden's Fox Sports show earlier this week alongside Rio Ferdinand, the Duke of Sussex, 41, opened up about the sports he used to play at Eton College – and we're sure George will be delighted by what he had to say.

James asked him: "Are you a soccer fan? I always thought you went to a school that was too posh to play soccer."

Harry was quick to correct him, saying: "Did I play football? Why are you calling it soccer?"

Prince George has become quite the football fan

However, he clarified: "It was such a posh school that everything was an option".

Indeed, the school's website states that boys will play a range of sports including hockey, football, rowing, cricket, fencing, swimming, squash, martial arts and water polo.

It's good news for Prince George, who is known to be a keen football fan, often accompanying his father Prince William to watch their team, Aston Villa, play

It means he'll have much to look forward to when he starts at Eton College this September.

It's not known when the young royal last saw his uncle Harry, who has made limited visits to the UK after stepping down as a senior royal and moving to the US in 2020 with Meghan Markle.

Prince George's birthday portrait this year was considerably more formal than in years prior, and signals the fact that he's soon off to secondary school.

Prince William and Kate's oldest child looked so grown up as he stood on the stairs at Kensington Palace in a new photo taken by Matt Porteous after last month's Trooping the Colour.

It was shared on social media on Wednesday morning, alongside a message reading "Happy 13th birthday, George!" and a party popper emoji.

George is second in line to the throne and will begin studying at £65k-a-year Eton in September, one of the country's most elite schools that has educated 20 former Prime Ministers.

The picture was accompanied by footage of the young royal playing on the beach in Cornwall over Easter to celebrate becoming a teenager.

Prince Harry appears on James Corden's show

Prince Harry has made several recent media appearances, including appearing on James Corden's show and on Joe Marler's podcast

Elsewhere on the show, Harry discussed England's World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina.

He said: "It's mindset. I think what we saw was a slight shock value for them. "[Expletive], we are 1-0 up against Argentina" and there was this immediate temptation to fall into defence."

He added: "I don't think it was a tactic. I don't think that was the plan. It just happened."

The Duke also provided his ranking of Britain's "best Harry", placing singer Harry Styles in first position, footballer Harry Kane in second, and listing himself and Harry Potter in joint third, joking that they would have a "quidditch-off".
