When I'm looking for entertainment in July and August, I have a few ideas about the kind of story I'm looking for. A TV show must be binge-worthy, it must make me laugh rather than cry, and it can't have any confusing twists or a frustrating ending. No one wants to deal with that during the hot summer months. Traditionally, the best summer series are guilty pleasures that are light, fluffy, and fun. However, I recommend a show that offers a bit more.
Amazon Prime Video's Off Campuspremiered on May 13, 2026, and since then, it's been one of the most popular shows on the streaming service. At the time of this writing, it's #2 on Flix Patrol, behind the Legally Blonde prequel, Elle, which is number one. The series, which is based on the book series by Elle Kennedy, was number one for a while, and it deserves it.
Prime Video's 'Off Campus' Is the TV Show Everyone Should Watch in Summer 2026
If you love TV (and of course you do, right?), you're lucky because this summer has had some solid new releases. Want a thriller that is hard to stop thinking and talking about? Check out Netflix's new Harlan Coben series, I Will Find You. Want a Western or a remake that is actually great? Binge-watch Netflix's Little House on the Prairie reboot. Prime Video also released the summer romance Every Year After, which is based on Carley Fortune's novel, Every Summer After.
I recommend Off Campus even more than all those shows. I Will Find You is great... but maybe a sad thriller that deals with heartbreaking themes about family and grief doesn't sound quite right, and you want something more heartwarming. When many viewers discuss Off Campus, they talk about the steamy storylines and the comparison to Heated Rivalry, Crave's hit series about two hockey players who fall in love over time. But, in my opinion, neither series is really about sports. Off Campus is special because it's about embracing who you are and having the inner strength to listen to yourself instead of outside expectations.
At the beginning of the eight-episode first season, Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli) and Hannah Wells (Ella Bright) agree to the kind of deal often seen in romantic comedies. She'll tutor him so he can keep playing hockey, and he'll be her pretend boyfriend so she can make her classmate, Justin Kohl (Josh Heuston) — a musician who is too full of himself — envious. Maybe you think that sounds fun, or maybe you want something more.
Off Campus has more depth than its premise suggests. Sure, we might not relate much to Garrett since we're likely not college hockey players wondering if we really want to achieve greater stardom, as our father hopes. Nor are we likely in Hannah's position: currently writing a pop song to win a showcase, save our spot at school, and have the future we always dreamed of. Most people have had a moment in life when they had to admit what they actually wanted, though, and this show explores that beautifully.
There's "guilty pleasure" summer TV, and then there's Off Campus, which has the light, carefree tone of the season while still examining important ideas about what it means to fall in love and how people can open up to each other. There's so much to appreciate, from Hannah's relatable awkward interactions with Justin to the scenes when Hannah and Garrett discuss their feelings and problems. If, like me, you avoid some rom-coms because of their corny dialogue, you'll like Hannah and Garrett's witty banter. And since both characters have real struggles from their pasts that they're trying to move on from, they seem like actual people instead of tropes.
Although binge-watching any recent popular streaming series is likely going to be a good time, I recommend this one. You won't regret watching these eight episodes and getting to know Hannah and Garrett.
