The Judges Plate at Q39 includes Q spare ribs, sliced brisket and sausage with apple coleslaw and potato salad as sides. Pulled pork and smoked chicken are also options.

It's the local business's largest location yet.

One of Kansas City’s favorite barbecue restaurants announced an official opening date for its Lee’s Summit restaurant and fourth location in the KC metro.

Q39 will open Aug. 3 at 240 SW Oldham Parkway, its owners announced on Instagram this week. The competitive-barbecue restaurant’s newest location is part of Oldham Village, a mixed-use development near the intersection of Missouri Route 291 and U.S. Highway 50.

“The pits are hot, the grills are lit, and we’re excited to be bringing pit-to-plate barbecue right here to Lee’s Summit,” said executive chef Patrick Peluso in a video on Instagram.

In the video, Kelly Magee, co-founder and CEO of Q39 who opened the more “upscale” BBQ restaurant with her late husband, Rob Magee, told viewers that reservations are now open.

A press release said the Lee’s Summit restaurant is the biggest Q39 location at nearly 10,000 square feet and with 223 seats. There is ample patio seating, with 74 seats in a screened area and 24 in an open-air patio.

The restaurant also features two bars, a butcher room, and a large area for handling of to-go and catering orders. The newest Q39 also has a 40-seat private dining room named after the late founder and pitmaster.

A menu for the newest Q39 was available on its website, and it appears that guests can expect much of the same staples served at its other popular locations. There are multiple starters and shareable options to choose from, like the wings they proudly claim are the best “on the planet” and their fire-roasted poblano cheddar cornbread.

There are a handful of salad options, which can be edited with any of Q39’s smoked meats or seafood. They’re probably best known for their competition plates, which give diners choices of brisket, burnt ends, smoked chicken, pulled pork, smoked turkey, chipotle sausage and a half-rack of ribs, along with two sides. Or get all the smoked meats with the Q39 champion platter, which feeds six people.

Their beloved burnt ends sandwich and burger make the menu as well as other specialty sandwiches. A section of the menu is also dedicated to their customizable five-cheese mac, which can come topped with smoked meat, of course.

Q39 features side dishes like apple slaw, potato salad, fries with chipotle ketchup, baked beans and fire-roasted Mexican street corn.

Q39 has been on a steady roll of expansion, having opened a restaurant in Lawrence just this year. At the time of the Lawrence opening, Kelly Magee said her team was “already assessing where we wanna go next.”

The barbecue restaurant also has a presence in Overland Park and in midtown along 39th street, which is where the Magees started the business.
