Boston police have identified a murder suspect charged in the death of a man who died Wednesday after he was found with traumatic injuries on the Boston Common as 27-year-old Bedford resident Ashlie Jeremie.

Jeremie is facing charges of murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and larceny under $1,200 in connection with two separate incidents, police said.

Boston police responded to the intersection of Boylston and Tremont streets shortly after 5:15 a.m. on Wednesday and found a man “with trauma to his body,” according to police. The man was taken to a local hospital, but was declared dead shortly after 10:50 a.m.

Shortly before 9:50 a.m., officers arrested Jeremie as a person of interest in an unrelated assault from earlier that morning, police said. During the arrest, officers found that he was carrying a metal pole.

Investigators determined that the second victim had been approached from behind and struck with the pole, causing him to fall to the ground, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Boston police have not identified the first victim or indicated the nature of his injuries.

Investigators ask that anyone with information relevant to the case contact Boston Police Homicide Unit detectives at 617-343-4470. Anonymous tips can be shared with police by calling 1-800-494-TIPS, by texting the word “TIP” to 27463 or by visiting the Boston Police CrimeStoppers website.
