(KRON) — Several homemade weapons were seized, and one person was arrested Monday following a six-week investigation by the Oakland Police Department. The investigation stemmed from a June 8 incident in which a victim was pistol-whipped in the 1100 block of 70th Avenue.

The suspect, according to police, took off from the scene in a white vehicle. With the victim’s help, officers identified the suspect on June 18. Investigators obtained a warrant for the suspect’s arrest.

They were located in their vehicle on Monday. Police also recovered two homemade firearms designed to fire live ammunition and projectiles, a BB gun, and suspected narcotics. One of the homemade firearms was loaded, police said.

Police also searched the suspect’s residence, finding additional firearms, more homemade weapons and ammunition, and suspected narcotics. The Oakland PD said it is seeing a rise in the number of dangerous homemade weapons in the community.

“These improvised weapons pose a significant risk to the public and the individuals who possess or use them,” OPD said.
