(KRON) — Police in Fairfield arrested a murder suspect Tuesday afternoon, hours after a 21-year-old man was fatally stabbed, authorities said.
The Fairfield Police Department responded around 10:50 a.m. to a business parking lot in the 800 block of East Travis Boulevard on the report of a fight. After talking with witnesses, officers pulled over a vehicle that was identified as allegedly being involved in the incident. In the front passenger seat was Nicholas Ortiz, 21, of Fairfield, who was unresponsive and suffering from a stab wound, authorities said.
Ortiz was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Detectives continued to investigate the stabbing and identified Royshawn Brown, 23, of Fairfield as the primary suspect. At 2 p.m., police located Brown in the 1700 block of Sunset Avenue and took him into custody. He was booked into the Solano County Justice Center Detention Facility on suspicion of murder.
A search warrant was served by Fairfield police at a home associated with the incident. No further details of the investigation were immediately released by authorities.
“This investigation remains active, and detectives continue to pursue additional investigative leads,” Fairfield PD wrote.
Brown is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon, jail records show.
