The Field of Dreams game is returning to the MLB schedule. MLB announced last year that the Field of Dreams game would be held between the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins.
As the two teams prepare for the game in Iowa, the teams have debuted the threads they will be wearing in the game.
The Twins, who are the home team for the contest, will be wearing a jersey with the script “Twins” across the front and pinstripes. The Twins used to consistently wear a similar jersey, but the design was retired after the 2014 season. The hat for the Twins will be the regular ones they wear during the season. Meanwhile, the Phillies will be wearing a grey jersey with red piping, also with a script “Phillies” across the front. The hat is a simple block “P” in the color red on a blue hat.
The Field of Dreams game is played in a ballpark adjacent to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa, the site which was made popular by the 1989 film. The first game was scheduled to be played between the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees in 2020. Due to changes in the 2020 schedule because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Yankees were scheduled to be replaced by the St. Louis Cardinals. The game would ultimately not be played due to a COVID-19 outbreak among the Cardinals.
The first game would then be played in 2021, with the White Sox defeating the Yankees 9-8. The next year, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Cincinnati Reds 4-2. The game has not been played since due to construction around the site.
The game will be played on Thursday, August 13. The teams will then travel to Minnesota, playing two more games in Minnesota over the weekend to conclude the series.
