The Philadelphia Phillies are in a position to return to the playoffs in 2026. The Phillies have needs to address at the MLB Trade Deadline, including finding a replacement for Brad Keller, who is out with an elbow injury.
The Phillies have three major needs: a fifth starter, a reliever to replace Keller, and a right-handed bat in the outfield. Still, there are questions about whether the Phillies have enough in the farm system to make deals, according to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic.
“The Philadelphia Phillies’ farm system, ranked 15th by The Athletic’s Keith Law, is not exactly the envy of the sport. But Dave Dombrowski, the team’s president of baseball operations, believes the Phillies have enough young talent to address each of their three principal needs,” Rosenthal and Sammon wrote.

Currently, Aidan Miller is the top prospect in the system, but he has been out this year with a back issue. The team also has Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford, but those are the only three ranked in the top 50 prospects in baseball.
There is plenty of interest in players in our system,” Dombrowski said Tuesday. “That’s not a concern at all.”
Painter could be used in a deal for the Phillies to go after Tarik Skubal, but the other two prospects would also likely have to be used to get a deal across the finish line for Skubal.
The Phillies will be aggressive at the deadline. They have cut their deficit from 10.5 games in the NL East to just three under Don Mattingly as the interim manager. Now, they will look to add and attempt to overtake the Atlanta Braves in the division.
