The Milwaukee Bucks have their eyes on the future after recently trading franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat in a deal that brought back a slew of young players and draft assets. Among those young players is big man Kel’el Ware, who showed some flashes of intriguing talent during his stint with the Heat.
Now, Ware has taken to Instagram to show fans who he’s been working out with this offseason: none other than NBA big man icon Hakeem Olajuwon.
The Houston Rockets legend has not been shy about spreading his wisdom to the new generation of players, famously helping LeBron James refine his post game during the 2011 offseason, which helped James win the next two championships and league MVPs.
Ware flashed an enticing skill set during his stint with the Heat over the last two seasons, using his length and wingspan to wall off the paint and finish lobs on the other end, while also teasing an improved three-point jumper. However, issues with his motor and defensive instincts at times put a limit on his ceiling, especially considering that Erik Spoelstra often prioritizes those factors above all else when configuring his lineups.
Still, in Milwaukee, Ware should have plenty of leeway to work on his game and make the mistakes that are necessary for any young player to come into their own. The fact that he has reached out and secured the help of Olajuwon this offseason is certainly an encouraging sign for fans hoping he makes the most of his undeniable physical gifts.
In any case, the Bucks’ schedule for the upcoming season is slated to be released at some point next month.
