You might already know that Tom has been sober from alcohol since 2022. In 2023, he told podcast host Jay Shetty that he made the decision to stop drinking because he realized he was "definitely addicted to alcohol."
“I felt like I couldn’t be social,” he said about a period of time in which he took a break from drinking, which led him to quitting entirely. “I felt like I couldn’t go to the pub and have a lime soda, [or] go out for dinner. I was really, really struggling, and started to really worry that maybe I had an alcohol problem.”
So, during a press junket for The Odyssey, a journalist took part of their interview time to talk about Tom's sobriety, as well as the effect it's had on her coworker's family's life. "The associate editor in chief asked me to ask you this," the journalist said. "You helped her dad stop drinking. She just wants to say thank you so much. It has changed his life, and she just wanted to give some love to you."

"Oh wow," Tom replied. "Thank you so much. [That] made my day."
Tom's costars, Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon, also had heartwarming reactions to the journalist's admission:
Commenters on Reddit loved the exchange, and they found plenty to relate to as well:

"He's been open about his own drinking issues and has spoken about non alcoholic drinks, including making his own," one commenter wrote, gesturing toward Tom's BERO brand of non-alcoholic beverages. "I believe he also spoke about Zendaya never drinking and wanting to make something they both enjoy. So it's great to hear how he's had a positive impact on others!"
In response to another redditor who mentioned that Anne is also sober, someone wrote, "I got sober around the time that she did. Best decision ever, and ive never regretted making the choice. Anne talked about it quite a bit during that time and it brought me some comfort seeing someone be really open about it."
"All three of them have such beautiful reactions to this," another person pointed out. "You can tell how genuinely they care about what was said."

Another commenter shared their own personal experience with being in recovery. "As a recovering alcoholic, I will always root for Tom Holland and his openness about his own struggles," they wrote. "I'm on day 73 and this is my second attempt at sobriety, and I'd only found out about his sobriety about a month ago, but hearing him talk about it has really been helpful. He genuinely just seems like such a good dude."
