An unusual and striking canine mix is capturing hearts online. Samson, a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Golden Retriever, was recently introduced to the digital world by his owners, showcasing a unique blend of two of America’s most beloved large breeds.
In an Instagram video posted by @samsonthegoldenmountaindog on July 14, his owners offered a glimpse into the pup’s active lifestyle. The clip begins with a close-up of Samson’s paws before panning upward to reveal his full, impressively fluffy stature.
Samson’s brown and black fur was dripping wet, likely from a swim during his 7-mile hike. His owners asked viewers whether anyone had “ever seen” this combination of dog before, as mixed breeds can inherit a variety of physical and personality traits from their parent breeds.
Understanding the “Golden Mountain Dog”
Often referred to as a Golden Mountain Dog, this hybrid combines the genetics of two distinct, high-popularity breeds:
