The Baltimore Orioles have not had the most consistent season to say the least. They are just 49-51 at the moment. Yet, Baltimore is only two games back of an American League Wild Card position. So, will the Orioles still consider trading outfielder Taylor Ward before the deadline despite being in AL Wild Card contention?

The Orioles are currently preparing their trade deadline strategy. MLB.com recently reported that the next couple of weeks will play a crucial role in determining the team’s final trade deadline plans. The fact that Ward is only set to make $4 million for the rest of the season is something that could entice teams. The outfielder will be a free agent following the 2026 campaign, however.

In all reality, the O’s could consider moving Ward even if they decide to buy overall. Ward is hitting .251/.389/.361 across 99 games played. He also leads the league with 79 walks. Other contenders would surely be willing to move talented prospects for Ward. The Orioles could retool the farm system while still looking to add MLB talent in other trades.

Of course, keeping Ward would help the O’s amid their postseason push. The idea of losing Ward for nothing in free agency will not appeal to the team, though. Unless the Orioles feel like a contract extension is possible, trading Ward could remain a possibility despite their standings placement.

Taylor Ward is certainly not guaranteed to be moved, though. It will be a situation worth closely monitoring as the 2026 MLB trade deadline draws near.
