Heading into Year 2 as an NFL player, expectations are sky-high for Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

One of the most popular players to make it to the league in recent memory, it seems like every fan has a strong opinion of Sanders one way or another, but when it comes time to actually take the field and produce, Deion Sanders’ son opts to block out all of the outside drama to instead focus on what he can consistently control, as he revealed on ESPN Cleveland.

“Consistency. That’s it. I can’t be consistent on the field and not have consistent in my personal life. Whatever you do in your personal life, you’re going to bleed into how you feel. So if you discipline, you’re going to be disciplined. You’re going to make the right reads. You’re going to do all this thing. You know, if you have a lot of distractions, you don’t get distracted. You’re going to think a cornerback is backpedaling and he’s really sitting,” Sanders said.

“So it’s like, I understand. I understand, you know, how real life translate to the game. And that’s why I simplified everything for me to go out there and execute, to go out there and do what I could do. And I know I can. So that’s all that matters is just displaying it for the world. You know, it was just it was just a tough year last year. So all my expectations, when I look back, I’m like, dang, at least I made it through there. At least I made some crazy plays out there. So it’s like I got it in me. All I got to do now is just show everybody else.”

While some may take issue with Sanders’ assertion, as he doesn’t exactly shy away from the spotlight with his signature celebrations and endorsement deals, in the end, if that’s what the Browns quarterback needs to do to perform his best, it’s good to know he’s found something that works for him heading into an incredibly pivotal second NFL season.
