The late opera singer Jubilant Sykes was allegedly stabbed over 73 times by his son, Micah, in December 2025 at his Santa Monica home

A disturbing autopsy report disclosed that opera singer Jubilant Sykes sustained more than 73 stab wounds.

The baritone vocalist, who died at age 71 in December 2025 at his California residence, was discovered to have been stabbed over 73 times, with 68 of the injuries classified as "sharp force" wounds and five attributed to "blunt force." His son, Micah, was taken into custody for his father's death and faces murder charges. He remains detained at Santa Monica Jail.

During the attack on Jubilant by Micah, the singer's wife, Cecelia, was reportedly in the shower when she heard "the decedent yell out for her to call 9-1-1." This disclosure follows accused murderer and singer D4vd speaking out about alleged child sexual abuse images found in his iCloud storage.

"When [Cecelia] came out of the shower, she saw their adult son standing over [Jubilant], stabbing him with an apparent artifactual sharp-edged weapon," reads a Santa Monica Police Department report. Cecelia and Jubilant were parents to three sons, including Micah.

Cecelia placed a call regarding a "possible assault in progress," reports the Irish Star.

She stated that "her son, who has a documented history of mental illness, had stabbed and killed" Jubilant. Micah is barred from contacting his mother under a protective order.

Jubilant, who earned a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Album in 2010, embarked on his first professional opera role in 1990. His career flourished across opera stages, concert halls, and musical theater productions. He was equally at home performing spirituals, worship, gospel, funk, and pop music. He also served as artistic advisor for Orchestra Santa Monica. His remarkable talent catapulted him to international recognition within the opera world and the broader musical community.

According to the Santa Monica Police report, officers discovered two weapons inside Jubilant's home, where he was killed. Among the findings was a "curved knife" with a blade approximately 9 inches long and 2 inches wide. A 10-pound dumbbell "containing apparent blood stains" was also recovered at the scene.

Addressing the court, Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Rodriguez stated that Micah was supposed to be "medicated" but was "either under-medicated or not following his doctor's recommendation."

A neighbor of the Sykes family told the Daily Mail that Jubilant "loved" his son and had been hopeful that Micah was "doing really well."

In the aftermath of the beloved singer's passing, Jubilant's management team released a deeply moving statement. "We are saddened to share news of the tragic passing of Grammy-nominated baritone, actor, husband, father, and beloved friend, Jubilant Sykes. Jubilant's remarkable artistry touched millions, and his voice was rightly described as 'art at its highest expression.' Jubilant's deep Christian faith perspective was the foundation of all that he was, and he will be greatly missed," they wrote.

A longtime friend of Jubilant's, Pam Forbes Clayton, paid tribute to the late vocalist.

"Jubilant was a singer beyond words," said Pam, "He sang all around the country, opera. He was so beautiful. They're beautiful Christian people."
