A viral social media video shows the moment a person reportedly called 911 for a bear stuck on a utility pole in New Mexico.
The video shows a large brown bear suspended in the air atop a tall utility pole.
The person could be heard on the phone confirming to the 911 operator that they are "calling about the bear." It comes after a teen's haunting final words in call to her mom as she was eaten by a bear were revealed.

"I'm on highway 56," the caller said.
The 911 operator seemed to already be aware of the issue.
"Are you calling about a bear?" the operator said. "It's on the tower pole?"
"Yeah, it's alive," the caller responded.
"Just leave it be, I've already called Game and Fish, and they said there's nothing that they can do. They could go and shoot it and tranquilize it to get it down, but if they do that then its gonna fall and hurt itself," the operator explained.
Members of a local New Mexico Facebook group later said that the bear died from electrocution; those reports, however, remain unconfirmed.

One incident in December 2025 included a bear that was nearly electrocuted after it climbed to the top of a power pole in Cochise County, Arizona.
A lineman, identified as Werner J. Neubaurer, assisted the stranded animal. His wife, Tina, filmed the shocking encounter on her phone.
"I de-energized the equipment and worked with a fiberglass stick to get her to climb down," he said, USA Today reports.
The video showed Naubaurer poking the bear with a fiberglass stick. A struggle ensued as the bear resisted Neubaurer's pokes and instead resisted the pushes. She finally climbed down after a final forceful push from the stick.
After she landed safely, the bear took off running.
