A chilling autopsy revealed that Opera singer Jubilant Sykes was stabbed over 73 times.
The baritone singer, who passed away at 71 years old in December 2025 in his California home, was found to be stabbed more than 73 times, with 68 of the wounds being “sharp force” injuries and five being attributed to “blunt force.” His son, Micah, was arrested for his father’s killing and charged with murder. He is being held at Santa Monica Jail.
As Micah, 32, was attacking Jubilant, the singer’s wife, Cecelia, was reportedly showering when she heard “the decedent yell out for her to call 9-1-1.” This revelation comes after Megyn Kelly shared her verdict on singer D4vd's murder charges.

“When [Cecelia] came out of the shower, she saw their adult son standing over [Jubilant], stabbing him with an apparent artifactual sharp-edged weapon,” reads a report from the Santa Monica Police Department. Cecelia and Jubilant had three sons, including Micah.
Cecelia called about a “possible assault in progress.” She alleged that “her son, who has a documented history of mental illness, had stabbed and killed” Jubilant. Micah is prohibited from contacting his mother, per a protective order.
Jubilant, who received a Grammy nomination for Best Classical Album in 2010, took on his first professional role in the opera world in 1990. His career blossomed, including works on the opera stage and in concerts and musicals. Jubilant also performed spirituals, worship, and gospel music as well as funk and pop. He served as the artistic advisor for Orchestra Santa Monica. His success propelled him into international stardom in the Opera and wider musical community.
Per the Santa Monica Police report, the officers found two weapons in Jubilant’s home, where he was killed. They found a “curved knife” with a blade roughly 9 inches long and 2 inches wide. A 10-pound dumbbell “containing apparent blood stains” was also discovered on the scene.
Speaking in court, Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Rodriguez stated that Micah was supposed to be “medicated” but was "either under-medicated or not following his doctor's recommendation."
A source from the Sykes’ neighborhood told the Daily Mail that Jubilant “loved” his son and was hoping that Micah was “doing really well.”
Jubilant’s management team shared a heartfelt statement in the wake of the singer’s death.
"We are saddened to share news of the tragic passing of Grammy-nominated baritone, actor, husband, father, and beloved friend, Jubilant Sykes. Jubilant's remarkable artistry touched millions, and his voice was rightly described as 'art at its highest expression.' Jubilant's deep Christian faith perspective was the foundation of all that he was, and he will be greatly missed,” they wrote.
A close friend of Jubilant’s, Pam Forbes Clayton, reflected on the late singer.
“Jubilant was a singer beyond words,” said Pam, “He sang all around the country, opera. He was so beautiful. They're beautiful Christian people.”
