The 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup reached its conclusion on Sunday, July 19. Spain topped Argentina, 1-0, in the final game at New York New Jersey Stadium. Spain is World Cup champions for the first time since 2010, while Argentina was unable to repeat as World Cup champoins.

Immediately following the World Cup's final game, FIFA's president and other authority figures (this time, President Trump) stand on stage, to give out first and second-place medals to the two teams.

It's a very streamlined and simple process. The runners-up get their second-place medals, the winners then get their first-place medals and then the entire team stands on stage, to pose for a group photo while holding the trophy.

The Super Bowl's postgame ceremony, meanwhile, is much less organized and more chaotic.

The NFL is being urged to copy the World Cup's plan

NFL insider Mike Florio is urging the league to copy the World Cup's format.

"There’s another benefit to savoring the moment. It extends the broadcast and secures a significant chunk of the TV audience longer than it currently would. Forget about using the Super Bowl post-game as the lead-in for the newest episode of the network’s hot show. Those days are over. Run it all the way to the handoff to the late local news," he wrote.

"Put simply, when a fairly large cow visits the barn only once per year, it’s wise to milk the hell out of it."

The World Cup was a huge success in North America. The NFL is already king in the U.S., but it can't hurt to follow soccer's lead in some ways.
