Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes has been linked with Arsenal for the past several weeks while he was playing for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
For now, all we know for sure is that Bruno is on vacation and spending a few days off, and that he should return to Newcastle to join the rest of the squad in the next few days. That, however, won’t do anything to prevent speculation over his future from growing and dominating the summer transfer window.
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, revealing Bruno’s return timeline on Wednesday, Newcastle expects Guimaraes to be back with his current teammates during the first week of August following his extended post-World Cup break.
Per Ryder, given those times, Bruno would be in line to participate in the club’s training camp in Spain’s La Manga and potentially play in the Aug. 8 friendly against Valencia.
The report also doubles down on Newcastle’s determination to keep Guimaraes, adding that the Magpies would only consider negotiations if the midfielder submitted a transfer request, which has not happened — at least publicly, as Bruno seems dead-set in leaving for Arsenal this summer according to all reports emerging during the past few weeks — for now.
Ryder reported that even if Bruno requests a move, the Magpies would only sell him for a fee close to €118 million (£100 million), significantly above the figures previously linked with Arsenal’s interest.
Guimaraes has two years remaining on his current deal, and the club holds an option to extend it by another year, giving them some leverage. On the other hand, if Bruno calls with the bad news, NUFC might have its hand forced and simply surrender to avoid another Alexander Isak situation.
The expectation inside St. James’ Park is that Guimaraes will report as scheduled and begin preparations for the 2026-27 campaign with the rest of his teammates, but that’s all on paper as Bruno has yet to report.
