Gable Steveson’s second RAF matchup is set

Gable Steveson is heading back to the wrestling mats.

The Olympic gold medalist and current UFC heavyweight returns to freestyle wrestling as he faces former college opponent Anthony Cassioppi at RAF 12. The event takes place Aug. 22 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland and serves as RAF’s one-year anniversary show.

Steveson makes his second appearance in RAF. In his promotional debut, Steveson earned a tech fall win over past UFC and PFL heavyweight Alexandr Romanov at RAF 9 in May. The 26-year-old made a successful UFC debut with a first-round knockout victory against Elisha Ellison at UFC 329 earlier this month. Steveson holds five wins over Cassioppi in their head-to-head matchups.

Cassioppi enters the matchup with a bit of momentum following his first RAF victory this past Saturday at RAF 11, defeating Mostafa Elders by points. In his prior RAF matches, Cassioppi faced two of the best in the world in Shamil Sharipov and Akhmed Tazhudinov.

RAF 12 is headlined by a matchup between Jordan Borroughs and UFC welterweight Sean Brady, while Colby Covington faces Belal Muhammad for the RAF cruiserweight crossover title in the co-main event.
