NBA The Run received its July update today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, adding the top three picks from this year’s NBA Draft. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer all join the roster, marking the first time the trio is playable in their new NBA uniforms. NBA The Run received its July update today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, adding the top three picks from this year’s NBA Draft. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer all join the roster, marking the first time the trio is playable in their new NBA uniforms. The three rookies were also featured in the recent Rookies Mixtape trailer, highlighting skills inspired by their Summer League performances.

The update also introduces the new Block Party ruleset, where every block takes a point away from the opposing team and the first team to 15 wins. AI has been reworked on both offense and defense, while players will also notice new animations, including additional alley-oops and put-back dunks. Check out the full patch notes below.

  • “Block Party” Ruleset – All blocks -1 from the other team’s score, first to 15 (can not go into negative points), set to Common rarity  
  • Oop City and Dunkfest Rulesets now set to Rare 
  • Old School Ruleset now set to Win by 2 condition 
  • Overhaul of AI and improved behavior across Offense and Defense 
  • Off the Heezay has been tuned to be possible at a more generous distance and angle
  • Off the Heezay stun time has been extended to make it a more powerful counter to blocks
  • Steal reach range, speed and angle have been reduced slightly to make steals more difficult
  • Turned rim friction and bounce speed to reduce high bounces
  • Tuned Good shot out come percentages
  • Tuned Good shot rim outcomes
  • Tuned Good shot off the backboard settings to greatly reduce the ball appearing to go through the side of the net and rim
  • Extended near intercept range to reduce rewarding spamming steals 
  • Extended stun time for OTH 
  • Increased rim outcomes for good shots 
  • ITZ Ability tuning:
    • Reduced Block boost in Paint Patrol
    • Increased passive guard distance for The Shadow
    • Slight increase to movement speed in Amped up and Rocket Man
  • Improved Jalen Brunson’s attributes to make him the first “4 Crown” player 
  • Bug fixes, polish, gameplay tuning & balancing
  • New unique jumpshot, advanced trick back, forward & left / right for Kyrie Irving 
  • Polished Wembanyama’s enhanced block animation
  • New jumpshot animation for Damian Lillard 
  • Multiple new alley oop animations 
  • New putback dunk animations 
  • Fixed root displacement issues on certain players 
  • Updated French localization 
  • Fixed issue w/ performance bonus not registering for CRED in KO Solos 
  • General fixes to KO Friends flow 
  • Perfect shot rim fire sounds
  • Adjustments to ITZ soundscape – less muffled for some sounds / certain sound effects (mainly UI and baller/ball sounds) will cut through more, ping pong delay 
  • Dunk SFX a bit more subtle, new sounds for explosions
  • Perfect shot ignite sounds + Perfect shot Rim SFX implemented 

The July update sets the stage for Summer Heat, the game’s first season, which launches next month. It will bring new players, a Championship Belt, additional rulesets and courts, leaderboards, a communications wheel, shop items and more. Players can also check out the previously revealed roadmap for a look at what’s planned beyond the new season.

For anyone looking to jump in, NBA The Run is currently on sale on Steam for a limited time. The Standard Edition is 34% off at $19.79, while the Deluxe Edition is available for $29.99 after a 25% discount. The development team says it will continue using player feedback from Discord and social media to help shape future updates.
