LeBron’s Decision Could Trigger Another Veteran Addition
The Golden State Warriors continue to wait for LeBron James to reveal his free-agency decision, but league insiders believe the franchise is already preparing its next move. If the four-time NBA champion commits to Golden State, the front office could immediately turn its attention toward adding another experienced big man.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, veterans Kelly Olynyk and Georges Niang are both names to watch if James joins the Warriors. After losing Quinten Post earlier in the offseason, Golden State is reportedly exploring affordable frontcourt depth, with both players expected to be available on veteran minimum contracts.
Among the two candidates, Olynyk appears to be the stronger fit. His ability to stretch the floor, facilitate offense, and shoot efficiently from three-point range would complement Steve Kerr’s motion offense while providing valuable insurance behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford, both of whom have lengthy injury histories.
The Warriors could enter next season with Porzingis, Horford, Charles Bassey, and potentially Olynyk sharing center duties. Adding another skilled passer and floor spacer would also create greater offensive continuity, as Olynyk's versatile style closely resembles the way Porzingis and Horford impact the game on both ends of the floor.
There are, however, legitimate concerns surrounding the idea. Olynyk is 35 years old and has appeared in only 86 games over the past two seasons. With Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody already expected to miss significant time, Golden State cannot afford to rely too heavily on another veteran with durability questions.
Another option would be promoting Graham Ike after his impressive Summer League performance, where he averaged 10.0 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. While Ike offers youth and athleticism, the Warriors may prefer the proven experience of Olynyk if they believe they are entering another championship window alongside James, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green.
Ultimately, everything depends on LeBron James' decision. Should he choose the Warriors, Golden State appears ready to continue upgrading the roster with veteran reinforcements. Whether that means signing Kelly Olynyk, pursuing another frontcourt option, or making an even bigger trade, the organization is clearly positioning itself for one more serious run at an NBA title.
