San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has been announced as the cover athlete for the all new NBA 2K27, which is set to release this fall. Wembanyama will be joined by Chicago Bulls great Derrick Rose and WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.

Wembanyama will be the cover athlete for NBA 2K27’s Standard Edition, while Clark will be the Deluxe Edition cover athlete, and Rose will be the Ultra Edition cover athlete.

NBA 2K27 reveals cover athletes for Deluxe, Ultra Editions

NBA 2K made the news official on Wednesday morning, as Wembanyama and Clark become the first Spurs and Fever players to be placed as cover athletes for the franchise.

Victor Wembanyama is coming off a season in which he averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steal, and 3.1 blocks per game while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 34.9 percent from three. He led the league in blocks for the this season in a row and led the Spurs to the NBA Finals, where they came close to winning the NBA Championship.

Wembanyama, who becomes the first Spurs player to be named a cover athlete, released a statement via NBA 2K:

“When you’re truly obsessed with basketball, the game doesn’t stop when you leave the arena,” said Wembanyama, Standard Edition cover athlete. “NBA 2K is the court that never locks up, it’s always open whether you’re in Paris or San Antonio. It’s how you study the game, sharpen your IQ, and live basketball 24/7. To be the face of a game that fuels that hunger for hoops and whose covers immortalize the all-time greats, that’s a dream come true for me.”

Caitlin Clark is having the best season of her young career this season, averaging 20.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 7.8 assists, 0.9 steals, and 2.5 three-pointers per game whiles hooting 42.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three. The points and field goal percentages are career-highs for Clark.

Clark also released a statement after being named a cover athlete:

“Being on the cover of NBA 2K27 is special because this game reaches fans all over the world,” said Deluxe Edition cover athlete Caitlin Clark. “To be the first WNBA player on her own global cover means women’s basketball gets to show up on that stage too, and I am proud to be part of that.”

Derrick Rose is a three-time NBA All-Star, the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year, and the 2011 NBA’s Most Valuable Player. Rose played 15 seasons in the NBA, capturing the hearts of fans who watched him overcome injuries to play at the highest level. Prior to his injuries, Rose averaged 21 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.8 assists with the Chicago Bulls. He finished his NBA career averaging 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 5.2 assists while playing for the Bulls, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rose released a statement on being named a cover athlete as well:

“It’s crazy looking back at being on the NBA 2K13 cover to now having my own edition for NBA 2K27,” said Rose, cover athlete for the Ultra Edition of NBA 2K27. “During my journey there have been coaches who believed in me, teammates who made me better, and fans who showed up louder than I ever expected. So, this is a chance to inspire young athletes to stay obsessed with the game. To show them that when you put in the countless hours of hard work, it rewards you.”

NBA 2K27 is set to release Friday, September 4th, 2026, with an early access launch date of August 28th, 2026.
